The first edition of the Open Science Awards of Catalonia has been announced

The Department of Research and Universities, in cooperation with the Consortium of University Services of Catalonia (CSUC) and the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (FCRI), promotes the awards

The Department of Research and Universities, in cooperation with the Consortium of University Services of Catalonia (CSUC) and the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (FCRI), announces the first edition of the Open Science Awards of Catalonia. The aim of the awards, aimed at research staff and institutions participating in the Catalan Research Portal, is to promote and reward individual and collective scientific activity in open science in any of the scientific disciplines developed in Catalonia.

The submission of candidacies will be made through www.premiscienciaoberta.cat, until Friday, June 27 at 2:00 p.m.​ The jury will meet to decide the names of the winning individuals and entities before December 1, 2025​.

The awards have three categories, the names of which pay tribute to deceased Catalan researchers of notable prestige within the scientific community:

  • Mercè Durfort Award (aimed at senior researchers with at least five years of experience):​ Award for individual activity to recognize a professional career that has stood out in the promotion of the principles and objectives of open science throughout their professional career, in any of the scientific disciplines developed in Catalonia​. The award has an endowment of €35,000 and an accrediting figure.
  • Joan Modolell Award (aimed at researchers up to 40 years of age with at least three years of experience): Award for individual activity to recognize a professional career that has stood out in the promotion of the principles and objectives of open science throughout their professional career, in any of the scientific disciplines developed in Catalonia. The award has a prize of €15,000 and a supporting figure.
  • Montserrat Sebastià Award (aimed at universities and research centers that have stood out for their excellence in the promotion, dissemination, creation or management of open science and for its impact in Catalonia): Award to recognize the institutional commitment to open science, promote and reward collective activity in open science in any of the scientific disciplines developed in Catalonia. The award has a prize of €75,000 and a supporting figure.
